THE HEALING POWER OF ART
Introduction
'ART' is defined as: :The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture. Art to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
Art is a form of communication. Concepts that people can understand and translate to their own thoughts, experiences and emotions with a new perspective—in other words, what they feel when they see an artwork and how that translates to the meaning of the piece.
Art is often used as a form of therapy for both children and adults alike—to express and examine certain feelings: to help release and reduce anxiety; to increase a sense of achievement and self-worth; and to measure certain disabilities or physical impairments. The art becomes the result of expression through media, not to convey a concept or meaning, but as the expression of raw and real emotions—not specifically for meaning, but as a vehicle on a journey for healing.
