Tyree Manygoats

I am of the Kinyaa’l anii (Towering House) clan of the Navajo (Dine’) tribe. I was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona.. My fascination with photography began during high school and during this time I discovered a passion for the art form and embarked on a journey that would shape my life and career. Over the years, my passion for photography has grown, allowing me to refine my craft and explore various genres. From landscapes, intimate portraits to special events, I have developed a keen eye for composition, lighting and capturing the essence of different subjects. I work to go beyond aesthetics and aim to convey narratives and evoke emotions through photographs, and hopefully, transport viewers into the heart of the moment.

In 2024, I have branched out and strived to capture, from a unique angle, the difficult topic of Murdered, Missing, Indigenous Women. Through my lens, and paying homage to my roots and by using night photography, I hope to bring attention to the thousands of women who have been forever silenced.

STATEMENT

This is a project that I started to help bring awareness to the Missing, Murdered, Indigenous Women. In these pictures, I attempt to take these ghost-like images of indigenous women in traditional clothing to show the presence of the missing. I use the dark urban setting to contrast the traditional regalia. The names are chosen to foreshadow what happened to these roaming spirits.
